Well, a couple of weeks ago I lost my job due to a reduction/restructuring of the company I worked for. It was a total and complete shock to me as well as my husband. I didn't see it coming at all and that made matters worse. The unknown was waiting for me.
The good thing was, about a week after I lost my job Grace and I went to Vegas to visit Laura, Don, the boys', Beth, Don and Leigha. Grace and I held up the fort in Laura's guest room, and we had an absolute blast with the kids. While we were there Larry and Karen were celebrating Karen's retirement so we had a very nice family dinner with them at Beth's house one evening. Mom, Grace and I reconnected with them at the hotel we were all staying at for lunch before our plane took off. We went to the strip one night and stayed at the Signature by MGM Grand. It was wonderful. A gated hotel. Grace loved the bath tub, it had whirlpool jets in it and I let her put her bathing suit on and just relax. She was loving life. Ahh, to be five and a half again!
I missed Joey and Joe like crazy, so I am happy to be home but it's always very difficult to say goodbye. Laura and I have grown very close over the years, sharing our infertility and everything, so our visits always are fun and warm and mean so much to me.
I hope our visits won't be as far between as this last one that's for sure.
Last night Grace and I did her project for the 100th day of school, 100 days goes by very quickly.

Cooties, cooties and more cooties....
It's been a while since I've blogged. There doesn't to be anything interesting going on then again there never seems to be a dull moment.
I'm sick, again. This sinus/asthma stuff really needs to go. I wish the weather would warm up and that might make matters easier for me too.
Joey had a Scintiscan yesterday at the hospital. Let me start off by saying that I am SO PROUD of him. He did awesome. It can't be easy to be in a tube with the top camera so close to your face and be so small. He cried for maybe one minute tops, the hardest part for him was he was hungry and couldn't eat or drink anything before the test. Did I mention the test was scheduled for noon and they let him eat around a quarter after, only half of the lunch I packed for him. Then he went up to the Nuc Med dept and they gave him tasteless odorless drops right on his tongue. He got to wash that down with choco soy milk and was good to go finish the rest of his lunch we packed. Once he was done eating, we visiting the rest room, boy oh boy, if you're not sick before you walk into a hospital, you certainly will be when you leave, talk about gross restrooms, do the words "don't touch anything, at all" mean anything to anyone? ew!
Joey layed still on the table watching TV shows for close to an hour. They have a "prize" bin and let him pick a prize out for not only him, but his big sister at home. After the test he and I visited the gift shop where he bought the biggest dinosaur ever for being a brave boy and you'd think we could leave with that, he got his sister something too. He's very thoughtful that way. Oh and two suckers, which made their way into my purse and they forgot about them, so I hid them for a special occassion. Whew!
The technologist remembered us from get this, four years ago, the last time Joey had this test done was St. Patrick's day, four years ago. Some memory on her. I did remember her too though, you don't quite forget those traumatic situations. I asked her knowing full well that she can't tell me anything, if she could tell me what she sees. She told me that the films go right from the machine to the radiologist who will read them and they never see anything but the last frame. So, when it was time to take the last picture she came in and showed me, she asked me what Joey's gastric emptying was four years ago.....................I don't remember, but I knew it was low b/c he was "delayed", she let me know that he's functioning at 11%, out of 100%, ugh was my thought and then she let me know that he is STILL refluxing. I told her he doesn't complain about it at all, she told me that in reflux babies who grow up to be kids they don't know any better and they think it's normal. Great, not getting Mother of the Year for this one. I feel so bad for my poor little man. I wish there was something I could do or that I knew. But when the GI dismisses you and you don't hear any complaints you think things are just ducky. Plus he's had so many other things going on since then with the blood disease and his eyes it's about all we can do to take one day at a time and just hope and pray for the best. And you'd never know any of this. but this all makes perfect sense as to why he's never hungry!

Merry Post Christmas!
Merry Post Christmas! Well, it's officially over with. We have seen yet another Christmas come and go already and are onto New Year this week. Where does the time go? Both kids had a GREAT Christmas and loved everything they got. Grace got a doll house from her Grandma and Papa that is bigger than her, Joey got a ton of things that he absolutely loves, esp. his Alive Cub, he goes nowhere without this cub, his name is Jaggy. As in Baby Jaguar from Go Diego, Go!
We spent Christmas Eve with both of our families and Christmas Day we spent at Joe's Uncle Bo's house for brunch in the morning, we always have such a nice time there. Then it was home to put the prime rib roast in the oven and have Mom, Gram and Joe's parents over for dinner. The meal was great and so was the company.
We had my Dad, Stepmother, nephew and Vicky over on Saturday for pizza and wings and to do Christmas, once again the kids made out like bandits. You couldn't see a spot on my rug without wrapping paper that's for sure! Teddy loved his things and even put his Wobe, as Joey says it on when he got home, too cute!
We need to get over to see Joe's Nana Mc, as she is ill and didn't make it to Christmas Brunch.
Joe's Uncle is having surgery today, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, as well as my Stepmother's father, his cancer is spreading very quickly and today is his first round of radiation therapy.
Love to all!!

Joey
Well, it seems as if I haven't posted in quite a while, since Thanksgiving I guess. Things have been crazy in our house.
Both kids have been sick, Grace started out last month with the stomach flu a few times or so we thought as in an earlier post of mine, then Joey's asthma kicked up. Both kids got diagnosed with strep throat a couple weeks ago and Grace had an ear infection, two eye infections (not pink eye, thank goodness!) and a fever, Joey's asthma was in full swing and so to the doctor we went. After the doctor, we had lots of scripts to be filled and a lot of resting to do in our house. Come Monday morning, Joe was sick, yep, you guessed it, strep got him too. So he got antibiotics and I took Joey to the asthma doctor, more meds for my poor little man. Needless to say it's been a sparse couple weeks in school.
Time to reminisce.......Yesterday Joey turned 4. It's hard to believe that four years ago I had him, it seems like a million years ago some days and then others it seems like yesterday, I can still remember seeing him for the first time ever and hearing the doctor say "It's a boy?". Yes that's a question mark. For those that know us, you know that up until the day Joey was delivered the doctor was 99.9% sure it was a girl! We were going to name her Amelia Brigid. Imagine our elation and surprise (some more than others) when it was a BOY! Joe never jumped off a chair so fast. We wer so excited. When Joe took him into the waiting room to see our families I asked that no one put a blue hat on Joey and that they didn't put the blue card on the basinette that said it was a boy. Everyone was shocked to hear the news. In the recovery room Joe looked at me and said we'd better pick a name. I told him that there was no way we couldn't call him Joey b/c he looked exactly like him. He went to change out of his scrubs and came out and said that it was fine, we would have a Joseph Lawrence II and not a jr. We went home the day before Christmas Eve from the hospital and we had a lot of visitors to see Joey and for the holiday. We had a great holiday. Then a week later it started. Joey started hitting the wall with vomit and we couldn't understand why. We changed formulas and everything and nothing worked, he would go back and forth to the doctor. Who in turn sent us to an ENT. Once we were evaluated by the ENT Joe was scoped in the office at just about four weeks old. Then he had a bronchoscopy & largyngoscopy at eight weeks old by emergency admit. Then at twelve weeks old he had an endoscopy. This went on until Joey was a year old, with a GI doc, an ENT and a primary care doc. Then when he turned one and a half we found out that I had a blood disease and the kids could either have it or be carriers. Grace thank God doesn't have the gene but Joey not only has the gene but has the disease as well, so that's another doctor to add to the list a hematologist. Then when Joey was two he got diagnosed with lazy eyes, cross eyes and blindness in one eye. When Joey was 2 1/2 he had his tonsils & adnoids out, tubes in his ears and another bronch and largynoscopy done. Now, add all of this up and look at my boy today, he's 4 years old, goes to school and is loving life. Everyday's a battle, but well worth it in the end.

Ramble Session
Things have been a little less than crazy the past few weeks. Joey's been battling his asthma and now has a nebulizer. He also had an upper respiratory infection and Grace had the stomach flu laced with the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. For those of you related to me (Lori V. & Anne Marie) you know exactly where this is coming from, I've been suffering from this for YEARS so has Joe, so our poor baby......................................it's a long life with this.
I have a tidbit for you, Anne and I were talking abou the recent Galbladder issues in our family and narrowed it down to 14 people who have had theirs out. Anne and I both had ours out in our 20's and Anne, add Barb to the list she too had hers out in her 20's, 23 I think she said, so our list is now 15, so Gaggiano trait, I think so! How come we couldn't get the genes that didn't have to do with vomit and surgery? :) LOL
I'm cooking for Thanksgiving this year for my Mom, Gram, Aunt Lori, Uncle Mat, Matthew, Miranda and Joe and the kids, then we're having dessert and cake for Joey's birthday and Uncle Tom is coming over for that, as Joey's his Godchild. SPIDERMAN is the theme this year. I'm so sure Joey will want to wear his costume and blow out the candles, he's so funny.
Grace is still dancing and both kids finished swim class a few weeks ago.
I'm still working hard and trying not to think about the fact that I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind on shopping, baking, cleaning, preparing, just about everything. It's a shame, usually I'm done and getting ready to wrap. But I did put my tree up last weekend, yes, it's early but it's done and it looks gorgeous! I'm tooting my own horn this year, I did good!
Well, everyone have a HAPPY THANKSGIVING. We certainly have a lot to be thankful for this year.
I'm thankful for my family, their health and knowledge is something that I would never be able to get from anyone else ever, I am very lucky to have three families, my children are very lucky to have three Grandma's, three Great-Grandma's, two Great-Grandpa's, and two Grandpa's. Not to mention the amount of cousins they have and Aunts and Uncle's they are extremely lucky and Blessed, as am I. I'm a better person because of my family and can accredite almost each of them with something they've taught me and I've learned.
Love to all!!!!!!!

Month End Wrap Up
Well, October's over, Halloween has come and gone, and everyone is officially in Holiday mode now.............well, ok not everyone I guess.
The kids had a blast on Halloween, they Trick or Treated with their friends the night before in their neighborhood b/c that's when they do it, and on Halloween I took a half a day and spent the afternoon at their school running between the two classrooms and assisting with the festivities and parades! That night Joe's parents came over for pizza and dessert and we hung out, I took the kids to the immediate neighbors that we know and trust and then the kids enjoyed hanging on the porch handing out candy to trick or treaters, they had so much fun.
We celebrated my friend Corinne's son's birthday on Saturday with them, Cameron is getting so big! Sunday I moved furniture while Joe was at the game and Grace was at Religion class to get this........make room for my Christmas Tree.
I'm not into the spirit of the holiday's yet. I'm starting the overwhelmed version right now. I'm hosting Thanksgiving dinner at my house this year for my side of the family and then plan to get up and go shopping on Black Friday. I am getting ready for Joey's "out" birthday party this year as well and trying to coordinate dates for cookie baking and such. Not to mention the normal household stuff, like laundry and everything.
The kids rooms are shaping up, I want to redo Joey's so we'll see how that goes, Grace's is in good shape, just gets messy from all of the toys she has. Our room looks as if it has exploded. I have clothes everywhere trying to figure out what's staying and what's going. I've adopted the thinking where if I haven't worn in, I won't wear it.
I'm also doing WW and have lost around 8lbs, it's taking me forever and I have vowed to get my heinie back into the gym tomorrow. Until last week I was going everyday, until I got the upper respiratory infection that knocks you way down, I'm sure you all know that one.
Grace had the stomach flu last week, poor thing. We went to swim class and Joey got in the water, Grace sat with me and she kept getting "sick" when it was time for Joey to get out, I motioned to Joe that it was time for us to go home. Grace spent the entire drive home with a bag and then when we got home we attempted to watch The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" and Grace wasn't up for it, I put her to bed and turned off the lights and low and behold that's when it happened.........................................

TGIF!!!!!!!
It's FRIDAY, thank goodness for small favors let me tell you!
I'm battling the cold that everyone else has or has had. It's going around the families and work, and that icky nasty belly bug is going around work too. I am praying that I and the rest of the family do not pick that up, that's for sure.
My Mom was in the ER yesterday with kidney and galstones, my goodness!
Let me take you back in time to February '08. I took a nasty fall on ice and hit my head, I felt fine, I had to go to the hospital after my eyes started rolling back in my head and I started vomiting though. Yes, TMI, sorry! Anyhow, they did a CT Scan of my abdomin just in case I ruptured my splein (I could've told them I didn't but I'm not an MD). So, the resident found it quite amusing that I hadn't ruptured anything but he found a kidney stone. I thought just great! Joe gets them and so does my Mom and Joe's brother along with most of Joe's family. I've seen what it looks like to have someone go through the "passing" of one of these stones, and OUCH doesn't even cover it! I went on with my life and forgot all about the stone until last week. I started having flank pain and really thought I had pulled a muscle. The kids are getting heavy I've been going to the gym, you know all of the normal stuff. This week Wednesday I was complaining about the back pain to Joe and he urged me to call a Urologist and have it checked out. So I went yesterday. I had a KUB X-Ray done, and wonder of wonders, they can't see the stone b/c the doc got the report from the hospital from back in February and I do not have a calcified stone therefore it will not show up on an X-Ray. Now I'm going for a CT Scan b/c the doc tells me he has to "locate" the stone. I was hopeful and asked "do you think I passed it" his response "uh, no". Great!, Just Great! I won't even tell you the other things running through my mind.
Enough of my issues with the kidney stone. The kids are getting treated to HSM 3 this weekend and are so excited!! Grace has a Halloween Party at dance class and a birthday party and another Halloween party at my nephew's school and then religion and Irish dance and I'm doing MiMi's hair. Whew, and that's only the weekend!
We got school pics back this week too, OMG they were not pretty. Grace had a great smile on her face but her head was to the side and looked odd, poor Joey looked as if he had to go potty. Needless to say, can you say MAKE UP DAY? Ugh! Just what I wanted and now I may not have them in time for x-mas.
Speaking of Christmas, I have made quite a dent in my shopping, yahoo!! I'm almost done with my kids which is great and have a few things for others. This will be a quick season, as we're thinking Halloween is next Friday, one week from today, then Thanksgiving and then it's Joey's birthday, wow!!
